Teeth Whitening

Teeth staining during our lifetime is primarily due to consumption of a variety of foods and drinks (coffee, tea, dark foods...), over a long period of time, although other factors such as drug use or environmental factors do play a role.  New technology of teeth whitening has enabled dentists to whiten teeth without any change or damage to the tooth structure.

Almost all the whitening methods are similar in concept but some are much more effective because of the way the whitening material is delivered to the teeth. The other factor is the percent concentration of material used.  These are just two reasons why over the counter whitening systems oftentimes don’t give patients the result they are hoping for.

The two methods we use for professional whitening are tray whitening and in office whitening.  In our office we offer a variety of whitening materials customized for the patient's needs.  Simple tray whitening is a fabricated custom tray given the patient after an impression is taken, with a supply of whitening gel is and is worn for 30 minutes to a few hours a day (techniques differ depending on the type of whitening gel we prescribe you) for a period of time until an acceptable result is achieved. Sensitivity of the teeth may occur and is usually due to overfilling the tray, but should be addressed by calling the office.

Our In-office whitening is the quickest method of whitening. It takes about 1.5 hours, but plan for 2 hours in your schedule.  We combine both trays and laser to deliver a great result, one which the patient will be very happy for a very long time.

Bear in mind, however, if you are new to Dr. Collins's office, that everyone’s mouth is unique, and in order to give you a great result, it is important that you receive an initial exam before your whitening to make sure your dentition is clean, stable and is ready for whitening.   Call us today and mention teeth whitening at (714) 887-0444 to schedule your appointment.
